What happened to Kerry's Ice-Skating Rink?

Mayor Welcomes Decision on Ice Skating Rink 09.12.04

Wellington Mayor Kerry Prendergast today welcomed the approval of a resource consent for the construction of an indoor ice skating rink and indoor bowling alley in Newtown.

The decision of the independent commissioners was released today. The ice rink and the 20-lane indoor bowling alley is to be built in the upper car park at the National Schools of Dance and Drama off Taranaki Street. The commissioners, in their decision, said the proposal had considerable merit.

Mayor Prendergast is delighted with the decision.

Another broken promise?

Hey - Ho!! Kerry does it again!!

...in all fairness though, we see the report is dated 9.12.04.
The original report mentioned there was an appeal period of 15 working days... (it's been a bit longer Kerry!!) or has this project conveniently fallen from favour now the South Coast's Fish Farm is on the horizon?

Wellinton's voters must have had a gutsful by now! Broken promises, about-faces on decisions and closed Resource Consent hearings ( one HAS to love those!!)

Time to call a halt to this woman's deception.
Send her back to Wellington Women's Hospital where she can fit right in with the other 'Deceptive Bends'.

Can I take you back to september 2002 when Phil Sprey and the Worlds of Wellington Trust organised a temporary Ice-skating rink @ Chaffers park (Waitangi park) for the holidays. This attracted some 20.000 visitors and many more missed out.I volunteered with many others (Canadian Russian Swedish Norwegian and Dutch) to make this happen for Wellington but particularly for the children. Miss Prendergast was well aware of the numbers and while it had momentum consequently cashed in by promising a permanent Ice-skating rink (many parents voted for Kerry as a result from being pressured by their offspring). I was absolutely delighted when Ms. Prendergast promised a permanent venue and in Newtown. I say "What happened to our Ice-Skating Rink"? Maria van der Meel at your service on behalf of the would be intermediate/secondary school Ice-hockey teams and the Russian resident Ice-Skating Queens still waiting!!!!!

without onsite carparking I am sure the locals will love it.

The Fish Farm is history as is the Ice rink down the road from us.

Now its time to retire this one and the mayor.

I also volunteered at the temporary rink - people loved it and it was the first time many have worn a pair of ice skates. I think it is a real shame that this project has lost momentum - I have just started up a group on Facebook called 'Build a damn ice skating rink in Wellington New Zealand!' http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=18767569896 - my intention is to put the project back on the consciousness of the Council, local community, property developers, and ice rink developers. In parallel, I plan to target property developers and see whether a proposal can be pitched to them and the Council.

I would like to hear a definitive statement from the Council that they will make this work - intention is one thing, but as we all note, things have gone off the boil.

Any advice or leads in this quest would be much appreciated.

Here we go again!

Major Kerry says he will made a ice skating rink and in 15 working days and when did he say that
9.12.04 I am sure it has been a bit longer than he said.
How many times can he do this until he remembers that what you say will happen we want to happen and when you say that we will get something such as a ice skating rink maybe he doesn't know this but we want a ice skating rink!
That temporary Fire and Ice skating rink it had 20,000 visitors and that was only 2 weeks think about a life time ice skating rink and 20,000 people a fortnight is 600,000 visitors a month and Kerry is worry about money issues you will have plenty of money. type in this address http://www.captimes.co.nz/news/32/n/1569/Sittingonice.boss and you will find out something so stupid at the end it will be unbelievable.
If I got to say something to Kerry I would say "Come on wheres that Ice Skating rink you said would happen at 9.12.04?"
