You heard an edited version on Morning Report

Fuel price report too middle of the road
We listened carefully to your reporting of fuel price rises and those you talked to and concluded that it was too middle of the road. Balanced reporting is required on this most serious issue. Even CNN is talking about oil reserves dwindling and who will get what is left. I've got news for you and the public. When the bidding war starts we won't be in the running.

Japanese transport option

We need a paradigm shift and that should have been discussed for a balanced picture. We are fossil fuel addicted and need to be weaned off oil. Why you might ask? The Association of Scientists For Peak Oil has been warning us for years that oil is about to peak. Top enery investment banker Matt Simmons and others tell us oil demand is a runaway train. Demand is outstripping supply.

We are a monolithic fuel based culture and the party is over for us. We suggest that people get used to taking the bicycle or walking to the dairy instead of driving the hatchback. And as I think about it, plastic will also be in short supply along with hundreds of other bi-products. Time to get serious people.

Cheers

I read the news article about the petrol price hike in the paper I am somewhat sceptical that it is the result of a relatively strong dollar . .. its usually exporters that claim that they are hurting because of a strong dollar -- not the importers !
If our dollar is so strong , how on earth will the US fare ?
But I am not an economist , and thats all I know re the exchange rate ( and perhaps I am talking rubbish anyway )

Lets see if innovative Wellington can lead the way with the idea of a less-car city centre ?
Who would be a good person to find more information on the policies in regards to traffic planning , and car parking facilities in the council ?

At least David Russell is trying to look at the issue with an open mind ( though he can do better
) But its a shame that the AA is talking nonsense .
I am not sure if you saw it , but there was a news report on the 6 Oclock news last week sometime . I am not sure if it was TV1 or TV3 , but they looked at Iceland , who are making more
use of alternative fuels bigtime .
