Chinese Garden needs to be in the right place in Wellington!

Bryan,

Nearly everyone supports a Chinese garden in Wellington(in fact for over ten years) but not on Frank Kitts Park....Let us not forget the design brief for Chaffers/Waitangi Park was to include a Chinese Garden (and incidentally a Pacific garden which seems to have been lost) and if the "public's choice had been selected" the garden would have been underway by now in the "Transition zone" east of Te Papa.....and would have been a welcome peaceful retreat to all the concrete wasteland and "artificial swamp"...

Cheers

Pauline

I agree totally with you Pauline. You may remember when I raised the issue with the Waterfront Subcommittee. Some of the Chinese community were there but seem not to want to speak up.
Cheers

Too right Pauline!

The Chinese are very much a part of Wellington's history and have indeed been here longer than some 'prominent' families.
Any monument to their contribution to Wellington's past?
No.

I seriously doubt too many of the Mayor's forbears were in the district around then.
Her mob only seem capable of monumental messes.

You make a constructive and pleasant suggestion.

I think there should be somthing in Haining St. It's where the Chinese were ghettoed in Wellington in the last century and it's just a gloomy industrial side street now:
