How to protect the Citizens of Wellington

I've been thinking that Wellington needs a home owners and tenants union to protect the citizens from developers and people who get elected into public office by telling lies and acting in an unethical manner. This union should look after the public interest of the ratepayers and renters of the city. It should have as its mission the informing and protecting the public by its own media. What do you think?

Cheers
Bryan

THANK YOU SO MUCH TO ALL THOSE WHO HELPED ME ON MY CAMPAIGN .

While this was not the best result for myself and those who seek a fair and just society we did the very best we could. The election was set against the failure of the All Blacks to win the world cup and a record low turn out of voters. There were too many candidates and not enough media scrutiny of issues and policy of those who stood. Even worse STV voters didn't use preference votes in an intelligent way.

Once again the media manufactured consent. There was virtually no reporting of campaign issues or public meetings. The voting record of those who stood as serving councillors was poorly scrutinised. The fact that Councillors badged themselves as centre left while voting with the right should have been exposed. The serious issues of rates and debt and public space and affordable housing and sustainability were barely given a once over lightly; the circus and apathy continued. I leave the rest to a letter and comments from readers.

Bryan, I just want to congratulate you on a campaign well conducted, and your return to the council table. Yes, it's very disappointing that you didn't win the mayoralty, but I thought you conducted your campaign with integrity and dignity, and I believe many respect and admire you for being your own person, and for the genuine consideration you show to the average Joe and Flo.
That said, I'm very disappointed in the people of Wellington, firstly for the mindless self interest of those who voted obviously for KP, thinking only of what she will continue to pour into their pockets. Provided she can find the support within a slightly different council this time, no doubt she will continue to line the pockets of her adoring fans (developers and commercial property holders) by pushing an increasing percentage of the rates burden onto average mum-dad-and-the-kids residents - those least able to afford it, because they don't own businesses or business premises through which they could pass on price hikes, and in the past the cost of rates, to customers, the majority of whom are the same mum-dad-and-the-kids.
As for the "green and sustainable Wellington" weasel words KP is spouting, yea right!
To those who did not vote I say, don't you dare grizzle and moan during the next three years at what you don't like of the council's decisions and actions. You brought it on yourselves, by not voting. You are the majority, so you could have made the outcome very different, but you sat on your hands.
Instead, from today onwards, take note of what WCC does, participate in discussion and consultation if you can and let council know what you think and want to see happen, but most of all, remember who does what around the council table, and go out and vote next time.
Bryan, could I ask you to put this onto your blog, please.
Warmest regards
Maggie Kennedy
