HOW THE MEDIA RESPONDED
Councillor enlists muppets for message
Wellington city councillor Bryan Pepperell has for the past few years warned his colleagues, the media, and anyone else who would listen, that the economic outlook of the world is dire.
And now he has enlisted the help of a couple of Muppets to get his message across to his Facebook fans and via his blog.
Mr Pepperell has posted amateur footage of himself singing with Muppets Ernie and Elmo. He starts with the ditty "Well I've got plenty of nothing", before Elmo asks, "Why are you sitting there?"( Sorry Guys, what Elmo said was, "Why a are you singing this?")
To which Pepperell replies: "Because, I'm worried about what John Key's giving me."
Elmo: What's he giving you?
BP: Nothing. . . a recession.
Elmo: What's a recession.
BP: When your friends are out of work.
Elmo: Like Oscar the Grouch.
Elmo: Yes, like Oscar the Grouch.
Mr Pepperell has embraced new media with, at times, dubious results. He is a prolific poster on Facebook and frequently makes offbeat videos of his messages.
Mr Pepperell is the Walking, Cycling, Motorcyling and Safety portfolio for the council. He represents the Southern ward in Wellington.
